windows vista build 5297 supports efi bios?
I am sure you made a typo, so you really meant 5270, no, it currently does not support EFI, that has not been implemented yet. Please check back in the next CTP expected this month, no guarantee. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "Tigerliu" wrote in message

Not for Bet testers, MSDN or TechNet. Ask the source you received Build 5308. Is it a legitimate source? Or more likely pirate source? 5308 is not a legitimate build to discuss here.

The only people who would have that build are beta testers and they shouldn't be talking.

Its either released to TAP or Windows for Vendors, they have their own technical groups, if you are a part of one them, its best to pose the question there. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "Tigerliu" wrote in message

Nope, that's a recognised internal build, and it's not even a stable build at that.

Definately not, I've had word that it's just "another run of the day" build - nothing very new, nothing very special, but the reason it's not stable is because Windows Defender had problems starting as a service on startup... something something... point is, just another daily build :o)

I know what TAP is, as I'm in the Office 12 TAP beta. However I can easily make a guess that "Windows for Vendors" is a beta version or pre-beta 2 version of Windows Vista that gets released to certain contracted manufacturers or hardware manufacturers to try and adapt their software or hardware to match the new version of Windows.
All I'm saying Andre, is that this 5297 and 5308 builds... are just run of the day builds before everyone goes home to bed for the night :o) Expect Beta 2 to be something around 5350 or so, or so I'm told... hinted :op

No Zack, you are in the Technical Beta for Office 12, not Technology Adoption Program (TAP). If I were you, I would avoid speculation, no one knows what the build number for the February CTP is or will be, it would be a way lot harder to guess or assume the BETA 2 Build number. Build numbers really don't matter anyway, its the quality. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "Zack Whittaker (R2 Mentor)" wrote in message

Zach,
I am not sure where you heard your info, and I wouldn't trust everything they say. 5308 is not just an everyday build....if you head over to Neowin, or if you follow the Vista NG close enough you will see that multiple builds of 5308 have been circulating (5308.1,5308.2,5308.3, etc) this means that they have forked a build for stabalization. This also means that they are driving this build number to something of quality to deliver to testers. Now it doesn't mean that is what we will get because they could hit a reset, but it certainly isn't another run of the mill build.
You do however correctly point out that this build isn't beta2, but more likely a monthly CTP. If you head over to Paul T's site you will see that the current "guess" on Beta2 (though it may not be called Beta2) is April.

You make a lot of assumptions. You seem to base them at least partly on neowin and Paul's site, neither of which I give any credibility.
Find reliable sites to source your information next time, those two are not reliable.

The most compeling information for this "assumption" comes from the following of Microsoft Employee posts. See when you post it tells everyone what build you are using by noting the newsreader you are posting from.
This newsreader information (inadvertaly) gives away the build of Windows you are using.
for example you are using Windows XP.. X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2670
Windows Vista will look like this X-Newsreader: Microsoft Windows Mail 7.00.5270.9
See that .9 at the end, yeah that means there were 9 revision to 5270 done. That my good Mr. Jones means they compiled that build 9 time, which they don't do for your daily builds. For your daily build they would make 5270 - 5271.

I doubt it is inadvertent, more likely it is simply not relevant and thus no reason to conceal. The wide variety of builds Microsoft uses internally tells nothing other than those builds are used internally. Anything else is assumption and nothing more.
